Famous food of Jharkhand: Jharkhand cuisine
Jharkhand's food mixes the dishes of Bihar with the forest foods of its tribal communities: rice, millets, leafy greens, mushrooms and bamboo shoot.
Favourite dishes
Litti chokha, wheat balls stuffed with roasted gram flour and eaten with mashed vegetables, is loved here as in Bihar. Dhuska, a deep-fried rice and lentil bread, is a breakfast favourite with potato curry, and chilka roti is a rice-flour pancake.
Forest foods
Rugra, a mushroom found in the sal forests in the monsoon, is cooked as a curry. Bamboo shoot (karil), marua (finger millet) roti and many kinds of saag (greens) are eaten in tribal homes.
Sweets and drinks
Thekua and pitha are made for festivals such as Chhath and Sohrai. Handia, a rice beer, is brewed for festivals in tribal villages, and mahua flowers are used for food and drink.
