Jharkhand Artists
Jharkhand's artists keep alive the songs, dances and paintings of its tribal and village communities, several of which are now recognised across India.
Chhau and folk music
The masked Seraikela Chhau dance, together with the Chhau of Purulia and Mayurbhanj, is on UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The Chhau guru Shashadhar Acharya and the Nagpuri folk singers Mukund Nayak and Madhu Mansuri Hasmukh all received the Padma Shri. Jhumar, Karma and Paika dances are performed at festivals.
Painting
Sohrai and Khovar paintings, made by women on the mud walls of homes in Hazaribagh for harvest and weddings, received a geographical indication (GI) tag in 2020. The Paitkar scroll paintings of Amadubi are among India's oldest living painting traditions.
Crafts and cinema
Dhokra metal casting, bamboo work and tussar silk are made in many districts. The actor Priyanka Chopra was born in Jamshedpur.
