Famous food of Arunachal Pradesh: Arunachal Pradesh cuisine
Arunachal Pradesh's food is simple and fresh: rice, greens from the forest, bamboo shoot, smoked meat and fish, cooked with little oil and plenty of chillies.
Everyday food
Rice is eaten with most meals, often steamed in leaves or bamboo tubes. Bamboo shoot, fresh or fermented, flavours many dishes, and meat and fish are smoked over the kitchen fire to keep them. Lukter, a chutney of dried meat and chilli, and pika pila, the Apatani pickle of bamboo shoot and pork fat, are local favourites.
Monpa food
In Tawang and West Kameng, the Monpas eat thukpa (noodle soup), momos and zan, a thick millet porridge, with butter tea.
Drinks
Apong, a rice beer, is brewed in homes and served at every festival and welcome.
