Arunachal Pradesh Adventures
Arunachal Pradesh, with snowy passes, deep river valleys and forests that run from the plains of Assam to the Tibetan border, is one of India's great places for rafting and trekking.
River rafting
The Siang, as the Brahmaputra is called where it enters India, offers some of the most challenging white water in the country. Rafting trips also run on the Kameng, Subansiri and Lohit rivers, mostly between November and March, when the water is lower.
Trekking and high passes
The road to Tawang crosses Sela Pass at over 4,000 metres, with its frozen lake. Treks lead through the Monpa country around Tawang and Dirang, the remote Mechuka valley in the west Siang district and the Apatani plateau around Ziro.
Angling and camping
Anglers come for the golden mahseer in the Kameng and Siang rivers, and camping is possible near Bhalukpong, Ziro and Mechuka.
Indian visitors from outside the state need an Inner Line Permit, which can be obtained online from the state government.
