Tripura Artists
Tripura's artists include one of Hindi cinema's greatest composers, and its tribal communities have their own lively dances and crafts.
Music
The composer and singer S. D. Burman was born into the royal family of Tripura; with his son R. D. Burman he wrote some of Hindi cinema's best-loved songs.
Dance
In the Hojagiri dance of the Reang community, women balance pots, bottles and lamps on their heads while dancing on earthen pitchers. The Garia dance is performed during the Garia Puja in April, and the Mamita dance at harvest time.
Crafts
Tripura's cane and bamboo craft is among the finest in India, and women weave the risa, a cloth worn across the chest, and the rignai, a wrap-around skirt, on their own looms.
