Kuchipudi, one of the eight classical dances recognised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, takes its name from Kuchipudi village in Krishna district. Telugu is the language of much of Carnatic music: Tyagaraja, its best-known composer, wrote most of his songs in it.Telugu cinema, made in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, is one of India's largest film industries.

India's national academies keep the record of its artists: the Sangeet Natak Akademi (music, dance and drama) and the Lalit Kala Akademi (painting and sculpture) give yearly awards and fellowships, and the Padma Awards site lists every Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan by state and field.
