Andhra Pradesh Adventures
With nearly a thousand kilometres of coast, the Eastern Ghats and two great rivers, Andhra Pradesh offers beach sports, river cruises, caving, trekking and camping. For Hyderabad and Telangana, see Telangana Adventures.
Beaches and the sea
The beaches around Visakhapatnam, such as Rushikonda, are the centre of water sports in the state, with jet skiing, kayaking, parasailing and surfing; scuba diving and snorkelling trips also run off the coast. Rushikonda was one of the first beaches in India to receive the international Blue Flag certification, in 2020.
River cruises
Boat trips on the Godavari from Rajamahendravaram and Pochavaram pass through the gorge of the Papi Hills, with overnight stays in bamboo huts at Kolluru. On the Krishna, boats run from Vijayawada to Bhavani Island and from Nagarjuna Sagar to the island of Nagarjunakonda.
Trekking and caving
The Eastern Ghats around Araku Valley offer treks to Ananthagiri, the Katiki waterfall and the Chaparai cascades, while the Borra Caves and the Belum Caves let visitors walk deep underground. In the Nallamala forest, treks lead to the nine temples of Ahobilam.
Camping and the outdoors
Gandikota's gorge on the Pennar river is a popular place for camping under the stars. Horsley Hills has trekking and rope activities, and the Talakona waterfall in the Sri Venkateswara National Park is a starting point for forest treks. Jungle safaris run in the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve from Srisailam.
