Satara is a town in the state of Maharashtra. The city is situated in the western part of the state of Maharashtra. The entire district comes under the Deccan region. The main rivers flowing through the region are Krishna and Koyna.

The mention of this town has been found in the documents of 200 B.C. since Karad was a part of that town. There is also a reference of Viratnagari which was believed to have been inhabited by the Pandavas. Chandragupta II ruled this region from 451 A.D. to 750 A.D. and the Satavahanas ruled this region from 550 A.D. to 750 A.D. Shivaji had conquered the region from the Mughals which eventually went in the hands of Parshuram Pratinidhi during the year 1706. However, in the year 1848 Satara became a part of the Bombay Presidency under the British regime.

This town offers great deal of tourist attractions. One of the most famous tourist destinations in Satara is Mahabaleshwar. It is a small hill station providing a beautiful view of the nature in its myriad manifestations. It is referred to as the “Queen of Hill Stations” by the tourists. The highest peak of Mahabaleshwar measures 4710 feet. Panchgani is another destination attracting tourists from all over the world. The second highest plateau in Asia is located in this region. Some of the other places to visit are Ajinkyatara, Yawateshwar, Kaas Lake, Bamnoli, Sajjangad, Thoseghar Waterfall, Gove, Nataraj temple, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, Dholya Ganapati and some others.
