Located at the heart of Maharashtra is the district of Jalna. It is located at 19^o to 21^o    N and 75^o to 76^o E longitude. Jalna was once a part of the state of Nizam and later on became a part of India after the Marathwada Mukti Sangram. The city of Jalna is situated on the Kundalika river bank and is regarded as a commercial hub of the region of Marathwada. Spread over an area of 7612 sq kms, the Jalna district is known for its agro based industries. The city of Jalna is the most important part of the district.

The region which presently falls under the Jalna district was once part of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. It became a separate district in 1982 with Ambad, Bhokardan, Jalna and Jafrabad as its constituent tehsils. The municipal town of Jalna also boasts of an interesting history. It is believed that the town dates back to the time of Lord Rama. Legend has it that Lord Rama and his wife Sita stayed in this town.

Owing to its easy accessibility from different parts of the state and other cities of the country, Jalna is flocked by tourists from distant regions. Though most of its attractions are of a religious nature, they belong to different religious sects and therefore exhibit great diversity.
