Jeeraphool rice

Jeeraphool is a short-grained, fragrant rice grown by farmers of Surguja in northern Chhattisgarh. Its small grains, like cumin (jeera) seeds, cook soft and sweet-smelling, and it is used for kheer and festive dishes.

Kosa silk

Kosa is the state's name for tasar silk, spun from the cocoons of silkworms that feed on forest trees such as saja and arjun. Champa in Janjgir-Champa district is the best-known centre of kosa weaving, with saris and fabrics in natural honey-gold shades; the cocoons are collected by tribal families in the forests of the state.

Help for entrepreneurs and local industries

Every district has a District Industries Centre (DIC), run by the state's industries department. It is the first place to go to register a unit, to apply for the state's incentives and subsidies, and for help with central schemes such as PMEGP.
