Bihar budget and economy
Most people in Bihar depend on farming. The fertile Gangetic plain grows rice, wheat and maize, Muzaffarpur is famous for litchis, and Mithila produces most of India's makhana (fox nut). Money sent home by workers in other states is important for many families.
Services, trade and construction have grown fast in recent years, especially around Patna.
