Uttarakhand Wild Life
Uttarakhand's forests and mountains, from the foothills to the high Himalaya, are home to tigers, elephants, snow leopards and hundreds of kinds of birds.
Jim Corbett National Park
Corbett, set up in 1936 as Hailey National Park, is India's oldest national park, and Project Tiger was launched here in 1973. It has one of the largest populations of tigers in India, along with elephants, leopards and crocodiles in the Ramganga river. Safaris run from Ramnagar.
Rajaji National Park
Rajaji, between Haridwar, Rishikesh and Dehradun, is a tiger reserve known for its wild elephants.
High mountain parks
The Valley of Flowers and Nanda Devi National Parks are together a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gangotri National Park and Govind Pashu Vihar shelter snow leopards, Himalayan blue sheep and musk deer.
Birdwatching
The Asan Barrage wetland near Dehradun, Binsar in Kumaon and the forests around Sattal are favourite places for birdwatchers.
