Nalgonda

Nalgonda is a town in the district of the same name in the state of Telangana in India. The documented history of the area begins with the establishment of Maurya rule over the region. Since then, Nalgonda has been under the governance of a number of empires and dynasties, which are as follows:

The small town of Nalgonda serves as a hub centering which a number of places can be visited. The Central Archeological Department Museum houses the treasures unearthed from the village of Nandikonda, including the ruins of the Buddhist monasteries and halls. Another interesting site is the village of Panagal, which is known for its ancient temples built during the rule of the Kakatiyas and Reddy dynasties. The adjacent museum is also known for its gamut of collectibles.

The Nagarjuna Sagar Dam located in close proximity to Nalgonda is also a place of interest. It is also near the Gowthama Buddha Museum and the Ethipothala waterfalls. The ‘triveni sangamam’ or the mergence of three rivers, the Godavari, the Krishna and the Moosi, and the bridge are also an oft-visited tourist attraction. The two devotional places near Nalgonda, Yadagiri gutta and Mattapalli, also attract large number of crowds throughout the year.
