Hoara: History, Geography, Tourism, Map Haora commonly known by the name Howrah is situated along the western banks of the River Hooghly. It lies just opposite Kolkata. One half of this particular city is engaged in industrial activities. While another part of it is still making its efforts in the field of agriculture. Haora has some places of tourist interest including sites like Gadiara, Botanical Garden and Belur Math. The Botanical Garden of Shibpur was established in the year 1786 and its major attraction is the Great Banyan tree that has been standing throughout the centuries. Santragachhi Jheel is another tourist attraction of this city. One of the oldest roadways of entire South Asia i.e. the Grand Trunk road passes from here and connects the eastern region with that of the western regions.
