Coimbatore or Kovai is called as 'The Manchester of South India'. Due to the salubrious climate, the city is also known as poor man's Ooty. Coimbatore is known for the manufacture of motor pump sets and varied engineering goods and its handloom products. A large number of technical institutions in Coimbatore cater to the growing technical needs of the region. The city is situated on the banks of the river Noyyal. Also known as Kovai, Coimbatore is one of the fastest growing cities in India. Situated at the foot hills of Nilgiris, it has pleasant climate, cosmopolitan outlook and private enterprise. Cotton textiles, electric motors, pumps, automobile spares, iron steel and aluminium castings form the major exports of Coimbatore.

Geography of Coimbatore

Coimbatore lies in the Western Part of Tamil Nadu bordering the Western Ghats. It shares part of its boundary with the neighbouring state of Kerala. The region is filled with naturally diverse eco system such as hills, plains, forests, evergreen fields, drought prone areas, river bodies, tanks etc., The temperature of the city varies between 39 Degree Celsius to 24 Degree Celsius. Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary

This is situated at an altitude of 1,400 metres in the Western Ghats near Pollachi about 90 Kms from the Coimbatore. The area of the sanctuary is 958 Sq.kms. Various kinds of fauna like tiger, elephant sloth bear, black headed oriole, can be seen here.  

Siruvani Waterfalls and Dam

The waterfalls and the dam are located at a distance of 37Km West of the city. The water of Siruvani is known for its taste. The panoramic view of the dam and the falls are of enchanting beauty.  

Black Thunder

Asia's No. 1 Water Theme Park - Black Thunder, is set at the foothills of the gigantic Nilgris. It is a thrilling and adventures water park at Mettupalayam. The water theme park is spread over 65 acres of land with green hills as backdrop and full of coconut and arecanut trees is a pleasant atmosphere. This park has adventurous water games and land games.

VOC Park

The Park maintained by Corporation, is dedicated to the memory of VO Chidambaram Pillai, one the Indian stalwarts in the fight for freedom. It has Mini Zoo, Children Train, Children Play Equipments, Garden with pre-historic Dinosaurs etc.

Jolly World

This is a theme park where people of all ages will be entertained and also educated. This Jolly World is planned similar to Disney Land of USA. 

Kovai Kutralam
