Ram Setu Area Map

Ram Setu is a historical area that was used by Lord Ram to cross into Sri Lanka in order to rescue Sita Devi. As seen in the map, the area is between 3 to 30 feet deep and is a major miracle that was performed by Lord Rama and his Dravidian soldiers.

A ship passing area needs to be built in the region so that Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh can have additional commercial activities in this region. However the sanctity of the area has to be preserved. This would be a good opportunity to create a limited port area and also to create a tourist attraction in the area. The limited and focused path for the sea vessels will also ensure that the natural sea habitats are not impacted. Indian government can potentially create a marine tourist attraction in addition to a religious and cultural tourist attraction.

This is a great opportunity for Culture, Commerce and Environment to come together and work out a reasonable solution. Construction activity has already started in the various ports in Tamil Nadu with the expectation that there will be a path for sea vessels. The depressed local economies in the region and the Indian economy as a whole will benefit from a thoughtful implementation of a sea-path through this area.
