Sindhudurg is the land of beautiful beaches, natural beauty and cultural heritage. Sindhudurg is located on the coastal region of Konkan. Now the district of Sindhudurg consists of eight tahsils called Kudal, Devgad, Malvan, Sawantwadi, Dodamarg, Kankavali, Vengurla and Vaibhawadi.

The history of the district of Sindhudurg goes back in the time of Chalukya King Pulakeshin II At that time Chandrapura was one of the famous towns in the Konkan region. Chandraditya founded this town. In the 16th century Sindhudurg saw the rise of the Portuguese power. In 1675 the sultan of the district lost hold to the hands of the Marathas headed by Shivaji. The mighty Marathas kept on ruling Sindhudurg till 1817 when it was conquered by the British.

Sindhudurg is famous for its natural beauty, numerous coasts, waterfalls, backwaters and pilgrimage centers. Some of the famous beaches of Sindhudurg include Aachara beach, Devbag beach, Tarkarli beach, Shiroda beach, Nivati beach, Velagar beach, Bhogwe beach, Khavane beach, Redi beach, Kunkeshwar beach, Bagayat beach, Mithbav beach Kunkeshwar beach, and Katwan beach.   

The tourism has flourished quite well in Sindhudurg due to its natural beauty and beaches. Tourists from all over the world come to relax and enjoy the picturesque beaches. The water of these beaches is so clear that the seabed is clearly visible through a depth of twenty feet.
