The Marathwada region occupies the northern frontier of the state of Maharashtra. Hingoli is situated in this region. The Hingoli district was once a part of the Parbhani district but came to be a separate administrative unit since 1999. Located at 19.43 N and 77.11 E, it is surrounded by Nanded, Yeotmal, Akola and Parbhani.  Three rivers flow through the district of Hingoli and these include the Kayadhu river, the Painganga river and the Purna river.

As Hingoli was once a part of Parbhani, both these districts share a common history. The district was under the rule of the Nizam and served as a base for military activities. A glance into the history of Hingoli reveals the fact that it was the scene of two crucial battles in Indian history, the first one been fought between the native Marathas and Tipu Sultan and the other one between Bhonsale and Nagpurkar in 1857

The district of Hingoli is divided into two main divisions namely Basmath and Hingoli and a further division was also implemented to streamline the administration. The district comprises five talukas called Sengaon, Hingoli, Kalamnuri, Basmath and Anudha Nagnath.

The district of Hingoli boasts of some small hillocks that are situated at a height of about 500 to 600 m from sea level. The Marathwada region is also known as Satpuda mountain ranges and as the Pathar Pradesh of Balaghat. Located at distance of 676 kms from Mumbai, Hingoli is connected to the capital city and other parts of Maharashtra by roadways and railways. You can always drive to Hingoli or take a bus ride. However, the fastest and easiest way to reach Hingoli is by trains. Local attractions include places like Barashiv Hanuman and Narsee Namdeo. One can also get a flavor of the local arts like Bharud, Gondhal, Kalgitura, Potraj and Shahiri.
