Dhule is a municipal council town in the district of Dhule in Maharashtra. From pre-independence era, Dhule has been known to be one of the planned cities of India. It is said that Capt James Briggs planned this city. It has been a part of Mughal Empire as well as Maratha reign.

Akbar, during his rule, had annexed Dhule into his territory in 1601. For more than one century, it remained an integral part of Mughal dynasty after which the power was transferred to Marathas. By 1818, British took over Dhule and make it a part of Bombay Presidency.

It is one of the important business hubs of Maharashtra too. In its golden days, it was a hustling-bustling industrial town with a flourished textile market. However, that golden era is gone. Instead many small scale industries are coming up. At the same time it is catering the huge market for electronic gadgets. Dhule houses many I.T. companies as well.

On the bank of Panzara River, Dhule can be a visual treat. There are two bridges on the river that connects Dhule with Deopur. From the intersection of two national highways, you can visit Laling Fort which has been standing there since pre-historic era. Besides, Suzlon Energy, a renowned name in the field of energy generation, has developed their wind plant in Dhule. When completed, it would be the largest park of the world of this kind.
