The term Chandrapur literally means, the ‘settlement of the moon’. It was formally as Chanda. Located on the tributary of river Wardha, it lies in the south central part of the country. One of the major attractions at Chandrapur is its historical fort gates which surrounds the city. This structure also has a defensive wall with crenellated parapets. The wall is around 10 feet in thickness and is broken at some places, but it gives a good insight about the history of that place. There are other tourist attractions such as temples and wildlife sanctuaries.

Chandrapur covers an area of  14895 sq. km. It has a tropical climate with dense forest covers at a number of places. The easily accessibility of the places makes it a popular tourist spot. The nearest airport is the Nagpur which is at a distance of 150 km. Chandrapur has its own railway station which is well connected by railroads across the country. Chandrapur is also well connected with the rest of the state.
